The art of Assisting Artisans
St. Lucian artisans are being granted an opportunity to carve-out a route through which they can improve the quality of their products and penetrate new markets.
Sequa gGmbH, a non-profit company which has for nearly two decades provided a wide range of services in the area of project development and programe management,is facilitating the effort.
It is currently spearheading a European Union funded Economic Diversification and Private Sector Development Programe, through which artisans can apply for various forms of assistance.
Earlier this month, Sequa assisted four local businesses to participate in the sixth annual Caribbean Artisan Festival in the British Virgin Islands, which was also attended by over 60 other artisans from the region.
During the March 6th to 9th event, Livity Arts, Calabash and other Crafts, Zaka-Caribbean Totems and Masks, Wilma Ephraim-Dolls and Spice and Becky`s Creations,were also able to sell and display their crafts.
Apart from being provided with the required funds to attend the festival, Sequa also aided the local arts and crafts establishments to showcase products designed and produced in St Lucia.
Sequa, which can be contacted through its local office at telephone number 453-1675,has committed itself to supporting other similar ventures and the local crafts sector on the whole.
The project`s overall objective is to increase the competitiveness of the local economy and to integrate it into the regional and global marketplace
